About Steve Harvey

Steve Harvey was born in Welch, West Virginia, and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He studied advertising at Kent State University for two years but left without a degree. He then worked as a boxer, autoworker, insurance salesman, carpet cleaner and mail carrier. In the late 1980s he spent about three years without a home and often slept in his car.

He first performed stand-up in Cleveland in 1985. In the late 1990s he toured with the Kings of Comedy, a show Spike Lee later filmed, and he starred in The Steve Harvey Show on The WB from 1996 to 2002. He has hosted a morning radio show since 2000 and the game show Family Feud since 2010.

Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man (2009) gives women his view of how men think about love, commitment and sex. It spent 23 weeks at number one on The New York Times bestseller list and became the 2012 film Think Like a Man. Critics say its advice rests on broad stereotypes about men and women, and that he has no training as a counselor.
