About Michael A. Singer

Michael A. Singer is a spiritual teacher, an author and a former software executive. He was born in New Rochelle, New York, and grew up in Miami. He studied business and then economics at the University of Florida. During his doctoral studies he had what he calls a spiritual awakening and turned to meditation and yoga. In 1975 he founded the Temple of the Universe, a meditation center in Alachua, Florida.

In 1981 he co-founded Medical Manager, which made billing and records software for doctors. WebMD bought the company in 2002 in a deal worth about $5 billion. In 2009 federal prosecutors charged Singer and other Medical Manager executives with securities fraud. He entered a deferred prosecution agreement and forfeited $2.5 million, and the charges against him were dropped.

The Untethered Soul (2007) is a set of talks on the self. It asks who hears the voice in your head and answers that you are the one who listens, not the voice. The practice is to relax and let go when inner disturbance rises. The book found a wide audience after his 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey. Later books include The Surrender Experiment and Living Untethered.
